Lum-Tec Watch FAQ

About Lum-Tec

Who makes Lum-Tec watches?

Lum-Tec is a family-run, USA-based watch company. It is the showcase brand of Wiegand Custom Watch, LLC, and each watch is hand-crafted by its team of professional watchmakers.

Where are Lum-Tec watches assembled?

Lum-Tec watches are designed, assembled by hand and tested in Mentor, Ohio, where Lum-Tec is based.

MDV Lume

What is MDV lume?

MDV® Luminous Technology is how Lum-Tec builds its lume. The luminous parts of the dial are printed with more than 30 layers of top-grade Super-LumiNova over a chemically coated, reflective base. This sends the glow out the front of the watch instead of losing it into the dial. Lum-Tec says its dials have been tested and verified by RC Tritec in Switzerland to be top performers of the Super-LumiNova material. Depending on the model, the lume is Swiss Super-LumiNova with a green glow (grade X1 C3 or X1 208LE), a blue glow (grade X1 C3 BL), or grade A BGW9.

Movements

Are Lum-Tec movements made in the USA? Which movements do they use?

No. Lum-Tec assembles its watches in Ohio, but the movements are not made in the USA. They come from Japan or Switzerland. The current Lum-Tec models we carry use Japanese Miyota automatics: the 9075 in the Combat Field X4, Combat Field X6 GMT, Combat B74 GMT, M94 and M94D, the 9039 in the Eclipse E1, E3, E5 and E6, and the 9015 in the Combat B69 and B70. They also use the Japanese Miyota 2105 quartz day-date in the Combat B67 and B68, and Miyota chronograph movements: the OS21J in the Combat B64 and the OS20 in the RPM 3. The Solar Marine 5 to 8 use Japanese solar-powered quartz movements, and the Combat B71, B72 and B73 use the Swiss Ronda 515 quartz.

Do the Solar Marine watches need battery changes?

No. The Solar Marine uses a solar-powered quartz movement. One minute of sunlight gives a full day of power, and a full charge gives up to 6 months of power reserve, so no battery changes are needed.

Water Resistance

How water resistant are Lum-Tec watches?

It depends on the model. Among the Lum-Tec models we carry, the RPM 3 is rated to 50 meters. The Combat Field X4, Combat Field X6 GMT and Eclipse E1, E3, E5 and E6 are rated to 100 meters. The Combat B64, B67, B68, B69, B70, B71, B72, B73 and B74 GMT, the M94 and the M94D are rated to 200 meters. The Solar Marine 5, 6, 7 and 8 are rated to 300 meters. Each product page shows the rating.

How do I protect my watch's water resistance?

If your watch has a screw-down crown, make sure it is fully secured before the watch gets wet, and never take the watch deeper than its rated water resistance. Lum-Tec's warranty does not cover water damage from an unsecured crown or from going past the rating. Lum-Tec offers free pressure testing for life on most models; check the product page for yours.

Warranty and Service

What warranty comes with a Lum-Tec watch?

Lum-Tec watches come with Lum-Tec's 2-year limited warranty, which covers manufacturing defects. On the Combat Field X4, Combat Field X6 GMT and Eclipse models, it is listed as a 2-year international limited warranty that is fully transferable.

What does the warranty not cover?

The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, misuse or accidental impact. That includes scratches, worn PVD coatings and chipped crystals. It also does not cover repairs, opening the case back, movement adjustments or other changes made outside Lum-Tec's authorized service centers. Damage to bracelets, straps or accessories is not covered, and neither is water damage from an unsecured screw-down crown or from going deeper than the watch's rating.

Does Lum-Tec offer free lifetime service?

Yes. Every Lum-Tec model we carry lists lifetime free services from Lum-Tec. Depending on the model, these include seal cleaning or seal service, pressure testing, battery replacement on battery-powered models, and timing regulation on automatics. Each product page lists exactly what is included.

How do I get my watch serviced?

Lum-Tec handles service. Download the service form from lum-tec.com/pages/service and follow its instructions for sending in your watch. You pay to ship the watch to Lum-Tec's service center. If you have questions, email service@lum-tec.com.
