The Heart of the Watch: The Miyota 9075 “True” Flyer GMT

At the center of the M94 is the Miyota Caliber 9075, a premium Japanese automatic movement featuring a true flyer (or traveler) GMT complication.

Unlike traditional “caller” GMT movements (where the 24-hour hand jumps), the 9075 allows the local 12-hour hand to be independently adjusted in one-hour increments via the crown. This makes it far more practical for actual travelers who need to quickly sync local time while keeping home/GMT time locked on the 24-hour hand.

When an international traveler crosses time zones, pulling the crown to the first position allows them to fly the local hour hand forward or backward to match their destination. The movement continues running in the background, preserving precise timekeeping. The 24-hour hand continuously tracks home time without interruption.

Lum-Tec goes further than most brands by individually bench-testing and regulating every 9075 to an impressive ±0–5 seconds per day across six positions. This rigorous regulation narrows the factory tolerance significantly, bringing chronometer-level performance.

Material Science & Design: CuSn8 Marine-Grade Bronze

The 44mm case is machined from solid CuSn8 bronze (approximately 92% copper and 8% tin). This alloy is prized in marine engineering for its excellent corrosion resistance in saltwater environments.

Unlike stainless steel, bronze develops a natural patina over time through oxidation. Each M94 will age uniquely based on the wearer’s environment, skin oils, and climate — turning from warm gold tones into rich browns and olives. The patina can be easily removed with lemon juice or baking soda if desired, returning the case to its original factory luster.

One of the most deliberate choices on the M94 is the complete absence of a date window. This delivers three clear benefits:

The Lume Engine: 30-Layer MDV® Technology

A Lum-Tec discussion is incomplete without highlighting their proprietary MDV® (Maximum Darkness Visibility) technology. Standard watch dials generally rely on single or double-pass pad printing to apply luminescent material. Over the course of a night, this thin layer quickly loses its chemical charge.

Lum-Tec counters this limitation with an incredibly labor-intensive application process. The dial and hands of the M94 receive a staggering 30 distinct layers of ultra-bright Super-Luminova. This extreme density acts as a chemical storage battery for ambient light. When charged by sunlight or a flashlight, the photoluminescent compound glows with torch-like intensity through the darkest hours.
