Lum-Tec says more than two years of engineering and development went into the Eclipse series, which it designed to sit thin and comfortable on the wrist. The 9.1 mm case narrows to a 3 mm leading edge that flows straight into a 3 mm flat-link, chamfered bracelet, so case and bracelet read as one piece. The bracelet tapers from 26 mm at the case to 18 mm at the clasp, and its links pivot every 2 mm so it drapes around the wrist instead of sitting on top of it. Around the dial, a ring of solid, floating 3D luminous markers keeps the layout symmetrical and quick to read. It is slim enough to slide under a shirt cuff and still has 100 meters of water resistance and an anti-shock movement mount.

The Eclipse E3 has a bi-layer ocean blue sunburst 3D dial with extruded luminous indices; the indices and hands use green-glowing X1-grade C3 Super-Luminova as part of Lum-Tec's MDV® luminous technology. Inside the 42 mm, 47 mm lug-to-lug steel case is a Japanese Miyota 9039 automatic, adjusted in six positions after assembly and visible through a threaded sapphire display back. Construction

The Eclipse case is forged from 316L steel and heat treated. Lum-Tec says forging improves fatigue strength by about 37% over a typical cast case. After hand brushing and polishing, the case gets an anti-fingerprint coating. The screw-lock crown and the threaded sapphire caseback are protected by silicone-lubricated double Viton seals. Lum-Tec says they are tested to 30% beyond the 100 m rating, and an anti-shock mount protects the movement from knocks.

Heat treatment keeps the steel stable while it is forged and hardens the surface after finishing. The thick sapphire crystal sits in a Hytrel mount, and the seals in the screw-lock crown and threaded caseback are meant to keep out salt water and chemicals and to cope with extreme heat and cold. The anti-shock mount lets the movement absorb an accidental drop or a hard knock.

Bracelet and Fit

The integrated bracelet is just 3 mm thick and narrows from 26 mm at the case to 18 mm at the clasp. Its link pivots sit only 2 mm apart, so it follows the wrist closely. The link edges are chamfered and polished, and a low-profile butterfly clasp keeps bulk off the underside of the wrist.

MDV® Lume

The floating 3D indices sit on an angled stadium ring and use X1-grade Swiss C3 Super-Luminova (green glow). It is printed in many layers over a reflective base so the light is sent forward, and the hands are filled with the same C3. Lum-Tec says RcTritec in Switzerland verified its dials as top Super-Luminova performers.

Lifetime Service

Lum-Tec provides free movement timing regulation, pressure testing, and seal cleaning and lubrication on the E3 for life, all done in Ohio. Lum-Tec says it regularly sees its watches come back for service after 15 or more years of use, and it puts what it learns from them into new designs. Lum-Tec says its watches are designed and engineered in Ohio from the ground up, and every Eclipse E3 is hand assembled and individually tested in Mentor, Ohio, using international and domestic components; the movement in this model is the Japanese Miyota 9039 automatic.
